Postpartum Doula

You have brought your newborn home! You may find yourself thinking, Now what?!

This is one of the most exciting times of your life, and it can also be a confusing overwhelming period of adjustment. The fourth trimester is a time of immense physical, emotional and psychospiritual change. A hazy period where you are not only recovering from pregnancy and birth , you're learning how to be a parent. There is leaking, bleeding, soreness and cramping. You may find yourself feeling exhausted and uncertain. That's where I come in! 

As your postpartum doula I can help with:

• Mothering the Mother- your recovery; how you're feeling, sleeping, and nourishing yourself are my priorities! This can look like giving you time to rest, assisting with a shower, loving touch (a relaxing gentle massage does wonders for recovery), making you a delicious healthy meal or giving you and your partner time alone together to connect
• Partner Support- this is a new time for you both! I am here to guide and support as they are adjusting to their new role. Facilitating the transition with as much ease as possible. 
• Newborn Care- bathing, feeding, soothing, etc
• Lactation Support & Infant Feeding Education
• Light housekeeping
• Monitoring your Mental and Emotional health- Screening for perinatal mood & anxiety disorders. Providing essential peer support and facilitating referrals to qualified therapeutic professionals if needed.  
• Parenting Philosophy Coaching- discussing your options and providing you with excellent resources that will support you in making an informed decision 
• Providing Companionship- sometimes we just don't want to be alone and that's ok! Im happy to come by, hang out and talk, or sit with you as you relax and catch up on your favorite show or movie (while also helping care for your newborn if you just need a break to feel human again)

When should I hire a postpartum doula?
In my experience an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Having a postpartum doula right away means you have someone knowledgeable and experienced by your side from the very beginning. This can contribute to a much more enjoyable postpartum recovery. 


Will a postpartum doula take over all parenting duties?
No, my role is to support you in your transformation as you step into parenthood and help facilitate a smoother transition during this adjustment period ensuring you feel as comfortable, supported, and confident in your new role as a parent as possible. I only assist with newborn care as needed/desired, as well as offer information and guidance.


If I have family/friends nearby, do I still need a postpartum doula?
Some people find the combination of support from their loved ones + doula support to be the best of both worlds. I adapt my assistance to compliment your existing support network & fill in any gaps in knowledge, expertise, or availability. My goal is for you to receive individualized care and guidance that best suits your unique postpartum journey. Consider your individual circumstances and priorities to determine what would be most beneficial for you!
